Our Company

Company History

Pennypacker/Drake Home Building has been building and remodeling homes of almost every stature since 1999. From humble to high end, we have helped create a myriad of wonderful, functional, comfortable, efficient, and very distinctive homes.  In the process, we’ve helped dispel the notion that building and remodeling needs to be an uncomfortable or arduous experience.  Enthusiastic and satisfied clients are as much a part of our goal as the building itself.

Pennypacker/Drake Home Building Inc. was founded in 1999, by owners Peter Pennypacker and Yarrow Drake.  Our roots go back to 1986 when Peter returned from designing and building furniture and super insulated houses on the Maine coast and became a General Contractor in Marin County.  In 1987, Yarrow, who came from a contractor’s family, began work with Peter as a carpenter. When the company formed, we carried on the attention to detail, craftsmanship, innovation and enjoyment we had always fostered in building. We kept our scope to residential construction from remodeling to additions and new homes.  By concentrating in this area, we are better able to develop our construction methods, office skills and to train our crew to handle the particular and varied tasks residential builders need to master.

The Crew

With carpenters, laborers and office staff, we number 14, making us a manageable business that allows for efficiency and control over the varied projects we undertake.  The friendship, respect, loyalty and a sound work ethic has kept the staff and crew together for years.

Each of our crews consists of a foreman, whose experience and qualifications are exceptional, as well as carpenters who work from forms to finishes and laborers who also leave the jobsite well tended.  Yarrow is the Field Supervisor and is on the job site daily. We work from foundation to finish.

The Office

We coordinate from the office and are in constant touch with, architects, designers, engineers, subcontractors and clients.  Over the years we have developed a program for estimating that also rolls into the billing format and helps make our invoices extraordinarily understandable and transparent, following the scope of work carefully.  This transparency and tracking is something that our clients have greatly appreciated.
